Maintaining your lawn

Sod: the fastest way to a gorgeous lawn
Professional landscapers are skilled at the development of sod lawns, which are produced from segments of grass rooted in dirt. Since it only takes a couple of weeks for a sod lawn to take root in the ground, this is a speedy, albeit pricey, way to develop a lovely lawn. You will need to work quickly as you lay down the sod because it can dry out if you don’t work fast enough. Once you have installed the sod it will require irrigation two or three times a day, but be sure you don’t give it too much water or the roots could drown. The next thing to do is to fertilize the sod without damaging the roots, so carefully apply the nutrients phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen with either organic or chemical fertilizer. It should take a couple of weeks for the new turf to become fully rooted and all that time you will need to stop pets and people from trodding on it. For continued maintenance of your new sod lawn you need to fertilize it once a month, and you can begin to mow it after about two weeks.

Thinking about a riding mower? Your legs will thank you
If your yard has a lawn that is too big to handle with a conventional push lawnmower you will find the perfect answer in a lawnmower you ride. A traditional push mower is often hard on the back and it can take many hours to do the job. For folks with leg or back pain these mowers are a blessing as long as the seat is suitably comfortable. Be sure you buy one with enough horsepower to handle the terrain and size of your yard. Lawn tractors are not the same as riding mowers, which are easier to maneuver than tractors due to the placement of the cutting deck in the front. When it is time to shop for a riding mower the two most important considerations are the size of your lawn and the size of your budget. The last big decision is how to deal with the lawn clippings, as you can collect them in a bag as you mow or let them remain on the ground and serve as mulch.

There are lots of different sites which deal with lawns and lawn equipment topics. For instance, when you have an interest in lawn gnomes, then Little Lawn Gnomes has plenty of usable advice.
